About Hot Cross Buns
Hot Cross Buns Holland Lops is a small, home-based Holland Lop rabbitry shaped by daily life, long-term commitment, and thoughtful care.
Our rabbits are raised indoors as part of our household and broader Homestead rhythm — not in isolation, and not as production animals. We believe how rabbits are raised matters just as much as where they eventually go, and we approach this work with patience, planning, and restraint.
This is not a fast program, a flashy one, or a volume-driven one. It is a steady one — built on experience, reflection, and responsibility.
What Sets Us Apart?
We focus first on temperament, health, and long-term outcomes, not speed or numbers.
Our breeding program is intentionally structured and safeguarded. We plan breedings carefully, with attention to the well-being of our does and the realities of rabbit reproduction — including planning for fostering support when needed and rest when warranted. We believe ethical breeding means preparing for real life, not just ideal scenarios.
Every rabbit here is known as an individual.
Every pairing is considered.
Every placement is approached as a relationship, not a transaction.
Clarity matters to us. So does patience.
Those values guide every part of our program.
What's with the name?
Our rabbitry name has its roots in a moment of simple family joy.
When we brought home our first Holland Lop, Plum Bun, we spent an evening tossing around as many silly, food-inspired name combinations as we could think of. Somewhere in that cheerful chaos, Hot Cross Bun was suggested — and it lingered.
Later, when we decided to try our hand at breeding, we revisited that original list.
Hot Cross Buns Holland Lops felt like the perfect fit. What other name could so effortlessly combine food, faith, and a touch of fancy all at once?
As we reflected on the name, we also couldn’t help but notice the resemblance between an edible hot cross bun and a Holland Lop settled low to the ground, fully committed to a staring contest. That resemblance became especially dear to us through our beloved buck Coconut Cream, who bore a perfect cross on his forehead.
The name became more than playful — it became personal.
It reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously, while taking the responsibility of caring for these lives very seriously indeed.

A Season of Stepping Away — and Returning
There was a season when we stepped back from breeding.
Life shifted. Priorities clarified. We listened carefully to what this work required — and to what we needed to sustain it well. During that time, we focused on the Homestead, lived alongside the rabbits already in our care, and allowed space for perspective.
What surprised us was how deeply we missed the work — not the noise or the pace, but the meaning.
The quiet stewardship.
The careful planning.
The relationships with families preparing thoughtfully for a rabbit.
We returned not unchanged, but steadied — with clearer boundaries, better structure, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Where we are rooted...
We realize that location plays a huge factor in deciding with which breeder you will work. We are located
2 miles east of Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio 44074, just off of OH-20 on State Route 511.
We are roughly 30 minutes west of Cleveland
90 minutes east of Toledo
2 hours north of Columbus.
We will provide our exact location to clients when they are scheduling their pick-up appointments.
The majority of our clients are from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, but we have had the joy of placing Buns with families from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Mississippi, New York, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
We can also claim to have had Buns residing in California and New Mexico, but they traveled to those locations when their families relocated. :)
Please note that we do not deliver Buns, nor do we utilize transport services. All placements occur at our rabbitry. Because our program is relationship-driven and home-based, placements take place here, in person. Our location is not a selling point — it is simply where we are rooted.
Looking Ahead
We work best with families who value thoughtfulness, patience, and honesty — and who understand that caring well is a long view, not a shortcut.
If what you’ve read here resonates, we invite you to continue learning about our program through the FAQ and inquiry information when available. If it doesn’t, we trust that clarity serves everyone involved — especially the rabbits.
Either way, we’re glad you stopped by.
