Hot Cross Buns Holland Lops
Welcome to Hot Cross Buns Holland Lops.
We are a small, home-based rabbitry shaped by years of living closely with rabbits — learning their rhythms, their personalities, and what thoughtful care looks like over the long term. Over time, our focus has shifted away from doing more, faster, or louder, and toward doing things in a way that is sustainable, intentional, and kind — for both the rabbits and the people who love them.
There was a season when we stepped back from breeding and placement to reassess what we were able to give well. In that space, we learned a great deal about pacing, boundaries, and the importance of building a program that could be sustained without burnout. When we chose to continue this work, it wasn’t because we felt pressured to return, but because we wanted to — with clearer priorities and a calmer approach.
When we describe Hot Cross Buns as a boutique rabbitry, we are not referring to size or exclusivity for its own sake. For us, “boutique” means placing fewer rabbits more thoughtfully, paying close attention to individual personalities, pacing litters carefully, and prioritizing long-term fit over speed or demand. It also means being honest about our limits and building a program that allows both rabbits and humans to thrive.
Some seasons here include babies. Some seasons don’t.
Some rabbits are placed quickly. Others remain with us longer.
We have learned that the best matches happen when there is space to slow down, ask questions, and allow relationships to form naturally, without urgency or competition.
If you are here because you love rabbits and are looking for something calm, ethical, and relationship-centered, you are welcome here. Take your time. There is nothing you need to decide right now.

A Boutique Holland Lop Rabbitry
What Being a Boutique Rabbitry Means at HCB
At Hot Cross Buns, boutique does not mean casual or occasional.
It means intentional, capped, and relationship-driven.
Our breeding program is designed with care and foresight:
Planned breedings, when conditions are right
At least two does per breeding window, so fostering support is always available if needed
Thoughtful rest periods and long-term retirement planning for our does
Indoor housing and daily, hands-on care for all rabbits
A deliberate limit on overall numbers so no rabbit becomes “one of many”
This rhythm allows us to be prepared, present, and responsive — not reactive.
We believe ethical breeding includes planning for what could go wrong, not just hoping everything goes right.
Why We Breed This Way
We don’t breed to fill cages.
We breed to steward lives.
Every pairing is considered.
Every doe is known as a cherished individual.
Every buck is a beloved friend.
Every litter is raised with attention, observation, and time.
We believe consistency and care can coexist.
We believe structure protects both rabbits and humans.
And we believe doing this work well is worth doing deliberately.
Placement, Not Transactions
Placement at Hot Cross Buns is relational.
We value families who:
Plan to house their rabbits indoors as family companions
Commit to spaying or neutering for long-term health
Are willing to learn, ask questions, and grow in rabbit care
Understand that temperament and fit matter more than timing and appearance
In return, we offer:
Honest communication and transparency
Education and support before and after placement
Thoughtful matching, never rushed decisions
Continued availability long after a rabbit goes home
Sometimes the answer is “not this time.”
Sometimes it’s a clear, peaceful yes.
We trust the process — and the timing.
The Hot Cross Buns Creed
We believe that every rabbit deserves a loving and dedicated family.
We believe in doing our best for every life (rabbit and human) we are blessed to know.
We believe in expecting the very best care for the Buns by housing them indoors and treating them as members of the family.
We believe in asking a lot of questions on our New Bunny Questionnaire to determine who will go the extra mile for their Bun.
We believe in requiring spaying/neutering for all of the Buns' long-term health and well-being.
We believe in giving life-long support, education, and encouragement to all of our clients.
We believe God brings the right family for the right rabbit at the right time.
