Hot Cross Buns Holland Lops
Hot Cross Buns Holland Lops'
Mission is straightforward.
Hot Cross Buns Holland Lops exists to responsibly breed beautiful, friendly Holland Lops of high quality in a loving environment, where they are handled daily and given the best possible start. They receive the highest quality pelleted food (from Sherwood Pet Health and Oxbow) and organic hay (from Small Pet Select or a nearby trusted source) available while living in our home.
We are a small rabbitry located just outside of Oberlin, Ohio. All the members of our family are involved in the bunnies' care in one way or another. From filling water bottles, to taking photos for the website, to playing with the bunnies or cleaning out exercise pens and litter boxes, Hot Cross Buns is a labor of love.
As small-scale Holland Lop breeders, each of our bunnies is a valued member of our family and we are able to take the time to get to know them as the unique individuals they are. We love them all, from the curmudgeon, to the busybody who must know what everyone is doing, they are as unique and varied as people in their temperaments. We hope to share our joy and experience in knowing and loving Holland Lops with others who may be looking for a beloved pet.
We are EXTREMELY picky about the very few rabbits we sell as breeding and show animals, so these are much rarer to come by. If our rabbitry name goes on a pedigree, we want it to mean integrity and high regard for the ARBA's Holland Lop Standards of Perfection. As such, 99% of the Hot Cross Buns are placed as pet quality rabbits with the expectation that they will be spayed or neutered at six months of age for their health and well-being. We make this a requirement for the purchase of all pet quality rabbits.
Our specialty is well-rounded, well-socialized bunnies that are raised to be true members of the family. They are used to barking dogs, running dishwashers, the sounds of five kids running and playing throughout the house, washing machines, doorbells, telephones...in short these bunnies should have nerves of steel by the time they leave our home. They are accustomed to car rides and being handled by friends and family. They are rocked like babies, licked by dogs, and played with daily. These are not "stick them in a corner and forget about them" bunnies. They are "cuddle time, play time, be your friend all the time" bunnies and we want the very best homes for them.
Can you provide that kind of a home? If so, we'd love to hear from you!

Mission of Hot Cross Buns
So What's With The Name?
Our rabbitry name was chosen while we were all suggesting names for our first Holland Lop, Plum Bun. In our efforts to think of as many silly combinations as possible, Hot Cross Bun was suggested. When we decided to try our hand at breeding, we revisited our name list. Hot Cross Buns Holland Lops seemed to be the perfect name and it stuck. What other name could combine food, faith, and fancy at the same time?
While considering the origin of our name, we also couldn't help but notice the similarities between an edible hot cross bun and a Holland Lop hunkering down for a starting contest.

Can you see the resemblance?
Are we raising over-heated, ill-tempered rabbits, as our name might suggest?
Are we raising over-heated, ill-tempered rabbits, as our name might suggest?
Absolutely not! Our bunnies are raised in our home. They are living the pampered pet lifestyle in our house, where they roam about in specially bunny-proofed rooms, at a designated time. They also take turns playing in bunny toy filled exercise pens. Since we like comfortable temperatures, our bunnies reap the benefits of our not too hot, not too cold, but just right environment.
We would never do anything to purposefully upset any of our bunnies. They rarely enjoy having their nails clipped and may look a little grumpy if they have to wait their turn at feeding time, but they get over it quickly and return to their sunny dispositions in no time.
