Matthew was looking a little down last night, so we decided to breed him with Suki (her first breeding) as a little way to perk him up a bit. This was on the list of things to do, we just hadn't decided when to let the magic happen.
So the mood was created with a nice, clean exercise pen (throw rug included for extra traction), the lights were low, there was quiet music playing in the background. Everything was perfect. The bunnies were introduced to each other and they seemed to gradually get the idea of what was supposed to happen. There was lots of buck chasing doe, doe chasing buck, doe mounting buck on the wrong end, buck mounting doe on the wrong end, all of which was perfectly normal. Suki became very excited and started chasing Matthew around in earnest. He suddenly started doing everything in his power to avoid her altogether, including leaping over her with astounding twists and turns. After about seven minutes of this, I realized things were not proceeding as normal and decided to break up the "fun" because Matthew was getting quite tired out. As I scooped Suki up to return her to her cage, I realized something...she was actually a he. No wonder that didn't go well. LOL
Sukie will be listed on the Available Bunnies page in the next day or two, under the name "Sam". Sam obviously has the makings of a very eager breeder and he will be available with his pedigree for breeding or showing, or as a pet bunny.
Amy is the Big Bunny at the Hot Cross Buns Holland Lop Rabbitry. She manages the furry bunnies as well as her own brood of five kits, with the help of her incredibly patient husband of nineteen years. Hot Cross Hoppenings will be a journal of our adventures in Holland Lop life.
