We are pleased to announce that two of our does gave birth yesterday.
Apple Jane had her first litter in the morning. She carried five babies, but sadly four of them were stillborn. First time litters are often entirely lost, so we are thrilled she has one little baby left to care for. He will have to be a strong, determined little guy because he has no litter mates to help keep him warm. We will be watching over him very carefully. Wee Walter sired Apple Jane's litter.
Blueberry Muffin had her second litter last evening. She gave birth for the first time on Christmas Eve 2016 and both had been stillborn. We waited a few weeks before trying again. This time she had a litter of five babies. Three of them look strong and healthy, while two of them appear to be peanuts, which will, sadly, die due to genetic and developmental problems that occur in dwarf breeds. Coconut Cream is the proud papa of these little babies.
If Apple Jane's little one seems to be struggling, I will foster him to Blueberry Muffin so he will have a better chance of surviving.
Amy is the Big Bunny at the Hot Cross Buns Holland Lop Rabbitry. She manages the furry bunnies as well as her own brood of five kits, with the help of her incredibly patient husband of nineteen years. Hot Cross Hoppenings will be a journal of our adventures in Holland Lop life.
