Following Cookie's successful kindling, the nest box activity subsided yesterday and last night. My heart sank when I checked and found five empty boxes this morning, but activity has definitely picked up in the last hour. Marilla, Mango, and Apple Jane have all been putting some finishing touches on their nests, hopping in and out with hay-staches and beginning to pull fur. There is no additional activity from Gladys, so I fear she may be having another false pregnancy.
Cake Pop kindled at 10 o'clock this morning. Since she was a true dwarf, first-time mama, we did not get our hopes up for any of her kits to be born alive, as they usually get stuck and are stillborn. Cake Pop had other plans, though. She had four very chubby kits, all pink and very much alive. She did such a wonderful job and is now enjoying a treat of black oil sunflower seeds. :) We are so thankful to God for His goodness in blessing her with live babies and keeping her safe in the process.
Amy is the Big Bunny at the Hot Cross Buns Holland Lop Rabbitry. She manages the furry bunnies as well as her own brood of five kits, with the help of her incredibly patient husband of nineteen years. Hot Cross Hoppenings will be a journal of our adventures in Holland Lop life.
