We have a bittersweet day ahead of us today. The bunnies are old enough to go to their new homes. While we are very happy for their great new families who will care for them lovingly, we are sad to see them go.
Gizmo (Buck #1 from Plum Bun's litter) actually went home with his new family yesterday evening. What a nice family! It was a joy to meet them and watch Nathaniel pick his new pet and 4-H bunny. We know Gizmo is one blessed little buck!
It was very strange to watch his remaining littermates the rest of the evening. Instead of being their normal, bouncy selves, they were all very subdued, and huddled up together for comfort and solace They knew something had happened. They missed their brother and were experiencing a loss. Gizmo was the quietest of the litter, so we weren't expecting such a change in the group dynamics. But those tiny little bunnies missed his sweet, gentle presence. I have a feeling we will be cuddling some very sad babies later on as some of their other siblings go to their new homes today.
But don't worry, the babies have been hopping and playing once again this morning.
