Finding a rabbit-knowledgeable veterinarian for your Bun can be a challenge. We decided to start our own page with client recommendations for their bun-savvy docs.
A good rabbit veterinarian will know the proper age/weight for spaying and neutering, will know the types of antibiotics that are safe for bunnies (and won't destroy their digestive tracts in the process), and will be knowledgeable of bunny-safe anesthesia. This is just the tip of the iceberg, but a great place to start.
In Ohio:
For the west side of Cleveland, Hot Cross Buns use and endorse Dr. Frank Krupka at the Avon Lake Animal Clinic in Avon Lake, OH. He raises rabbits of his own and has never steered us wrong with our Buns.
In the North Ridgeville area, Pam Z. has followed Dr. Emma Corrigan to the Animal Clinic Northview for her to provide care for her beloved Bun. As of 1/19/22, Dr. Corrigan is new to the practice and her information hasn't yet been added to the staff information on the website, but she is there and is accepting new patients.
In the Barberton area: Madison J. highly recommends the Barberton Veterinary Clinic. The address is
4873 Richland Ave, Norton, OH 44203 and phone number is (330) 825-2434. Her bunny saw Dr. Adair or Dr. Velez, but she knows there are other rabbit-savvy vets in the building.
In the Columbus area, Rachael S. had this to say about Dr. Keith at the Healthy Pets of Lewis Center in Columbus:
"I love Dr Keith because she has two of her own rabbits (I believe she also specializes in anything rabbit related not just the surgery) so she is very knowledgeable, but she's also just very caring, I was a wreck and she called me before the procedure even started to reassure me and walk me through everything and gave me her number if I needed anything over the weekend afterwards. The office as a whole is absolutely amazing from the front office staff to the techs.. but she is so kind and patient. She was very detailed with the aftercare at home and she made sure Cece was doing well enough to come home."
In Michigan:
"In the western suburbs of Detroit, Dr. Karen Knight at Roose Animal Hospital in Plymouth, MI, is amazing. I've taken Theo to her since he came home with me and every visit has been a pleasure. According to the staff, Dr. K volunteers her vet services to the Midwest Rabbit Rescue in Plymouth, so she knows her way around bunnies! When Dr. K neutered Theo, she had the staff call to tell me how he was doing (I was out of town) and assure me that all was well; that allowed me to rest easy until I could pick him up the next day. As a first-time bunny owner, I have had a lot of questions, so when I'm not bothering Amy, I ask Dr. K and she kindly answers quickly and thoroughly. The icing on the cake is how reasonable the pricing is for visits and surgery. I won't be taking my little guy anywhere else." This thoughtful reference comes from Mary R.
