Our Process
Think of us as a bunny matching service. Yes, we may have several Available Bunnies, but you don't want just any bunny that looks cute. Our goal is finding the right bunny for the right home. A happy bunny is a joy to be with, but a miserable, upset bunny will soon bring a big case of buyer's remorse. We want our bunnies to go home with the families who are the absolute best fit for them, to ensure a happy relationship for all involved. When a bunny becomes available, it will be offered to the family who is the best match for that bunny's temperament, after also considering the family's desired color, gender, and age. For example if a family is seeking a young, blue tort buck for a pet in their outgoing, often rambunctious family, we will not match them with a quiet-natured young blue tort buck, because it would not be the best fit for that particular bunny. We might suggest an outgoing solid blue buck from a different litter instead, and the family could accept or decline.
From the time you make initial contact with us by answering the Bunny Questionnaire until you are offered a bunny, we are going to be emailing back and forth with you, asking and answering questions, trying to get to know you and your lifestyle well enough that we can get a clear picture of the kind of bunny that would make a happy addition to your home. We ask you to contact us at a minimum of every two weeks so we can keep the conversation going and get to know you well enough to help pick out a bunny that will bring you joy.

Milk Dud - Pet Baby Doe
Date of Birth: December 13, 2022 Parents: Posey & Finnegan Color/Pattern: Broken Siamese Sable Status: Available to families with approved New Bunny Questionnaires Pick-Up Date: On or after February 7, 2023 Price: $275 Milk Dud is a gentle-natured little doe. She has adorable white markings on the tips of her ears, which are known as "milk dips" among breeders. Milk Dud likes to explore close to her home base but comes back to where she feels safe after a short time. She becomes braver with time and familiarity, but doesn't stray very far. "Home" can be her habitat or the lap of a beloved and trusted person. She will benefit from having time to build a gentle, trusting relationship with her new family. UPDATE: 2/15/23 Milk Dud has continued to delight us with her sweet temperament. She comes to us when she wants love and cuddles. We have no problem gently picking her up and taking her into the living room to play. She has been playing with Howard every day since her sister was placed, but she enjoys interacting with people, too. We were concerned that she might become more timid after her sibling was placed, but this has not been the case at all. If anything, she has become more interested in spending time with us and exploring her environment. She truly is a little joy! UPDATE: 3/14/23 - We can't believe that no one has asked to be matched with Milk Dud yet. She is very sweet and is a joy to cuddle. She is still curious and enjoys playing with toys. We love her! She was very fond of her sister, Bunsen, and could be a wonderful candidate for having a bunny friend after she bonds with her family and recovers from her spaying surgery. If you are interested in learning about bonding, we recommend these sites as sources of good information. As the Hot Cross Buns are raised to be pampered pets, we do require the signing of a Spay/Neuter Agreement as part of our placement paperwork. Please speak to your rabbit-knowledgeable vet to inquire about their services and fees. We are able to share the contact information for a great vet in the Oberlin area who spays/neuters all of the retiring Buns at a very reasonable rate.
All of the baby Buns go to their new homes with a bag full of goodies including: a packet of bunny care information, a small bag of transition food and hay, a snack baggie of old-fashioned raw oats for treats, a toy, and a fleece snuggle mat. |
Howard- Pet Baby Buck
Date of Birth: December 14, 2022 Parents: Francesca & Hamish Color/Pattern: Fuzzy Magpie - Solid Status: Available to families with approved New Bunny Questionnaires Pick-Up Date: On or after February 8, 2023 Price: $275 Howard is such a Howard. He couldn't be more of a Howard if he tried. We adore his sweet little face and expression! Although he looks like a hopping heap of dryer lint, Howard has a quiet dignity about him that would never permit him to be called Howie. Howard is slightly more adventurous and independent than his fuzzy sister, Greta, but not so outgoing as his brother Baxter. He is a pretty cuddly little guy but does wriggle down to explore when he feels the need to assert his independence. After a few minutes, he's usually ready for another round of cuddles, but he is usually too sheepish to ask for them. UPDATE: 3/14/23...Although Howard has finally recovered from his haircut which left him looking as though he has a run-in with a weed-whacker, I missed some mats prior to taking his picture...again. He is a very handsome little guy. He doesn't enjoy being picked up, but once he is safely in your arms, he loved to be petted and cuddled. He is still initially very shy, but he does have a curious side and likes "booping" things with his nose. His fur is obviously different from that of a typical Holland Lop. Many decades ago, when the Holland Lop breed was being developed, the rabbits were cross bred with French Angora rabbits to introduce different colors, fur type, and patterns. Although many, many years have passed since those breedings occurred, the angora gene still pops up every once in a while. They are still considered as being purebred Holland Lops, but are lovingly referred to as fuzzy Holland Lops, or fuzzies. The American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) considers them to be different from the recognized breed American Fuzzy Lop, although there are some practices occurring behind the scenes that makes their lineage more than a bit "fuzzy." We don't worry about any of that because our fuzzies are blessed with loving pet homes, but it does make for some interesting reading, if you're interested in learning how each breed developed. Below is a video about grooming fuzzies, if you would like to learn more about the process and tools needed to help them look their best. https://youtu.be/X9fJ_SERSPo Because he has been blessed with a longer than typical coat, Howard will need some extra time and care. Some fuzzy-loving families learn how to clip and groom their bunnies themselves, while others find a rabbit-friendly groomer who is comfortable clipping the coat into a "puppy cut" style every 2-4 months, as needed. When they are not brushed regularly, fuzzy Holland Lops tend to develop mats on their cheeks, at the back of their necks, and around their bottoms. Keeping them clipped short helps them stay tidier and makes brushing them out much easier. Fuzzies have a tendency of being very sweet, agreeable, and mellow, and Howard fulfills that description quite nicely. |

Boopsy - pet spayed doe
Date of Birth: October 1, 2020 Parents: Trixie & Joshua Color/Pattern: Solid Blue Status: Available to families with approved New Bunny Questionnaires Pick-Up Date: Anytime Price: $250 ($150 spay fee + $100 for Boopsy) Boopsy is a very gentle, rather timid girl with an old soul. She would love to be placed in a quiet home where she could live in a pen or even free-roam when she is reliably litter trained. She was delighted when she was moved from a generously sized cage space to living full-time in an exercise pen and has been expressing her joy with an abundance of binkies. When introduced to a little buck in need of a bonding buddy, she was the second choice, as she tolerated his attention and kisses very nicely. If selected as a bonding bunny friend, she would most likely bond with the bunny first and then with her new family in a gradual manner. She loves treats and can be bribed, but usually hops back to a spot where she can observe from a safe distance. Boopsy shows displeasure by thumping very loudly, but has never nipped nor demonstrated any sign of aggression. She will sit quietly on a lap when placed there, but prefers to have her bottom on the couch or chair, while her head and front part of her body is on the lap. She needs to be handled in a gentle but confident manner, so she doesn't become fearful. Size-wise, Boopsy is a false dwarf girl and weighs about 5 lbs. She is beautiful and her blue coat is silky and shimmers in the light. She was spayed on February 7, 2023, with no concerns or complications. She is now ready to be placed with a forever family. Boopsy is going to need some time and reassurance as she settles in to life as a pet Bun. She was an excellent mother to her two litters of babies and was very nurturing to all of them. She had six kits in her first litter and seven in her second. We have retained her lilac daughter Periwinkle at the rabbitry and so hope sweet Boopsy will find a loving, nurturing home where she will blossom and enjoy her retirement. All of the Buns go to their new homes with a bag full of goodies including: a packet of bunny care information, a small bag of transition food and hay, a snack baggie of old-fashioned raw oats for treats, a toy, and a fleece snuggle mat. |

Theodosia (Dozey) - pet spayed doe
Date of Birth: October 15, 2021 Parents: Molly & Little Boy Blue Color/Pattern: Solid Chinchilla Status: Available to families with approved New Bunny Questionnaires Pick-Up Date: Anytime Price: $300 ($150 spay fee + $150 for Theodosia) We will be posting new pictures of Dozy very soon! Theodosia is a beautiful little chin girl. She has two sides. She is one part sweet and one part sassy. Dozey likes to explore and tends to be very curious. We have noticed that she is rather ambivalent towards other rabbits, so she does not have much potential for forming a close bond to another bunny. We recommend that she be an only bunny in a home where she will have plenty of time to play and explore, as well as time for cuddles and pets. Dozey has always been a rabbitry favorite. She was a very cuddly baby and, although she has become more independent as she has matured, she retains her curious and sociable nature. Although she is still quite young, we felt the need to retire Theodosia early from our breeding program after having only two litters. She stopped nursing her kits when they were about 4 weeks old and we then needed to hand raise them, so didn't want to risk breeding her for more kits when she might not want to nurse them at all. Dozey is a petite doe and weighs about 4lbs. She has a gloriously thick coat that is very soft. She was spayed on February 7, 2023, with no concerns or complications. She is now ready to be placed with a forever family who will love both her sweet and sassy sides. All of the Buns go to their new homes with a bag full of goodies including: a packet of bunny care information, a small bag of transition food and hay, a snack baggie of old-fashioned raw oats for treats, a toy, and a fleece snuggle mat. |

Will-o the Wisp (Wispy) - pet spayed doe
Date of Birth: July 20, 2020 Parents: Millie & Joey Color/Pattern: Solid Chinchilla - light Status: Available to families with approved New Bunny Questionnaires Pick-Up Date: Anytime Price: $250 ($150 spay fee + $100 for Wispy) Will-o the Wisp, or Wispy as she has come to be called, is a delightful two year old spayed doe who is looking for a loving forever family. She is a sassy, busybody girl who loves to be included in everything. She can be a bit bossy and is very particular about how she likes to have things arranged in her living space. She is curious and loves to explore. Wispy would be a great option for sociable families who don't mind a pet with a huge personality in an adorably small and fluffy body. Wispy is a huge favorite of mine. She thumps her feet at me when I do something she doesn't like, she turns her back when I want to take her picture, and can be downright ornery in general. In spite of all that, there is something incredibly special and precious about her. If we had space to give her the freedom to roam about, we would absolutely keep her, but she deserves a family and home of her own, where she will receive oodles of attention. She is rather ambivalent towards other animals, tolerating dogs and cats well, although she is not a fan of yappy dogs. We would prefer her to be the only bunny in her new home, however, as we are fairly certain she would be a very dominant Bun, which can be difficult on another rabbit. ** We would also prefer that she be placed in a bunny-experienced family. She's a great rabbit, but can be a bit of a handful for someone who is new to caring for them. **UPDATE:2/26/23 Wispy was introduced to a little buck as a potential bonding buddy and, as we suspected, Wispy took a very dominant role in the introductions. Although she didn't do anything that could have harmed him, the poor little guy was decidedly stunned by her behavior and gave her a wide berth for the remainder of their time together. Wispy was spayed on November 3, 2022, after having three successful litters for us, totaling in 8 kits. We have kept her daughter Pigeon in the hopes that her lovely coloring will continue to be passed along to future generations of babies born at Hot Cross Buns. Wispy has recuperated fully and has not had any problems or health concerns. Will-o the Wisp will go to her new home with a bag full of goodies including: a packet of bunny care information, a small bag of transition food and hay, a snack baggie of old-fashioned raw oats for treats, a toy, and a fleece snuggle mat. |
